We are seeking a talented, detail-oriented volunteer Desktop Publisher and Graphic Artist to assist with the design and production of both print and digital media for our organization's annual fundraiser event.
This role will primarily focus on updating existing marketing and communication materials while maintaining a consistent visual identity across all collateral. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience with Adobe Creative Cloud tools, particularly Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign, and will have a light understanding of Adobe Illustrator. You will work closely with the Board Chair and receive ongoing support from the Volunteer Marketing and Technology Manager to meet deadlines and produce high-quality designs. Design work begins in February and finishes in December with clearly established and communicated deadlines throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design & Layout: Update and maintain the design of print and digital collateral, including a sponsor packet, newspaper and magazine advertisements, social media posts, and day-of-even materials.
- Content Updates: Modify existing layouts with new text, photos, and graphics, ensuring that the materials stay fresh, relevant, and aligned with the organization’s visual theme for the year.
- Creative Direction: Collaborate with the Board Chair and Marketing & Technology Manager to align designs with annual goals, thematic direction, and branding guidelines.
- Quality Control: Submit work to the Marketing & Technology Manager to ensure all graphics meet print and web quality standards, including proper resolution, color correction, and alignment.
- File Management: Prepare and store files for both digital and print distribution on the organization's cloud drive, and utilize cloud based collaborative tools.
- Regular Check-ins: Attend quarterly virtual meetings with the Board Chair and Marketing & Technology Manager to review ongoing projects, suggest new ideas, and ensure alignment with organizational needs and priorities.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud Applications: Extensive experience with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign. Light understanding of Adobe Illustrator is helpful.
- Experience with Print & Digital Media Design: Knowledge of both print production processes and digital formats for websites, email campaigns, and social media.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of accuracy and consistency.
- Creative & Collaborative: Strong visual design skills with the ability to incorporate feedback and collaborate effectively with team members.
- Time Management: Ability to meet established deadlines and adjust to the evolving priorities of the organization.
- Experience in Nonprofit Design (Preferred): Familiarity with designing for nonprofit or community-based organizations is a plus, but not required.
Additional Information:
- All professional photography for the organization will be provided; the designer is not responsible for photography.
- Most collateral materials have an established design template but require annual updates to reflect new themes, events, and organizational changes.
- While remote work is possible, the candidate should be able to work within the required deadlines, and be responsive to team communications.

Every year, BGCA produces its annual fundraiser Festival of Trees. The event features expertly decorated and designed artificial holiday trees available for raffle and live auction, that will then be delivered to homes of winners (within SD County). The event also features a silent auctions, and other donation opportunities. 100% of the proceeds of this annual event benefit the San Diego LGBTQ+ community! We raised just under $23K in 2021, $40K in 2022, $46K in 2023, and $66k in 2024 for HIV/AIDS services in San Diego.
