Volunteers Needed to Make Lap Blankets

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Canyon Home Care

We are looking for crafty people to knit, crochet or quilt lap blankets for our hospice patients. This is an activity that can be done on your own time, bringing in articles to our Denver office when completed. Your time and heart in this project will warm the laps and shoulders of many of our patients. All colors are welcome as the blankets will be distributed to both men and women.

Please make sure the yarn or fabric can be washed in warm to hot water and in the dryer as often our patients are in facilities and there is no control on washing instructions.

Please reach out if you are interested in contributing to our program in this way. We would love to see what you create!

Mission Statement

Our mission is to deliver the best home-based care for our patients; whether it is recovery and rehabilitation after an operation or injury, care focused on chronic disease empowerment, palliative care for those with a terminal illness, hospice care at the end of life or pediatric care for the medically dependent.

Description

Our volunteers’ goal is to provide companionship to our patients. One of the greatest gifts you can give to another is your time.
Below are some examples of what this would look like...

Be present * Provide a listening ear * Tell a story * Sing
Read a book * Play cards * Help record the patient's life / write letters
Take the patient for a walk * Provide respite for the caregiver
Lead an activity in a facility * Pet Therapy * Assist in the office
11th hour volunteers - sit with (at a bedside) a patient who is actively dying.
The biggest thing our volunteers can do is, be a friend.
