We are looking for kind, patient, big-hearted people to join our volunteer program and be companions to our hospice patients.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Your role as a member of our hospice team is one of support and friendship. Our team of nurses, social workers, and chaplains work to provide the best health, legal, and spiritual care. Volunteers provide social interaction, compassion, and most of all, time. Through weekly visits you will help patients and their caregivers cope through shortâterm sitting, active listening, and occasional activities. Possible activities include short walks, reading, listening to music, card games, storytelling, arts and crafts, or hobbies specific to the patient. Duties that fall outside of the volunteer’s scope include discussing or administering medications, house cleaning, running errands, and providing transportation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively
* Ability to show compassion and understanding
* Active listening skills
GENERAL VOLUNTEER QUALIFIFCATIONS:
All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, complete hospice training, an orientation, and pass a Mantoux skin test for
tuberculosis and background check. In addition, volunteers must demonstrate and maintain the following responsibilities
and functions:
1. Knowledge and demonstration of the Hospice Philosophy
2. Sufficient maturity to carry out assignments in a dependable way.
3. Be in good physical and emotional health.
4. Provide own transportation and provide a copy of proof of car insurance.
5. Complete initial and ongoing hospice training.
6. Sign and adhere to patient confidentiality and HIPAA rules.
7. Complete documentation of all times and activities done within 48 hours.
8. Inform your supervisor if you are not going to be able to fulfill an assignment.
9. Maintain open and honest communication with your supervisor and assigned facility coordinator.

11th hour volunteers - sit with (at a bedside) a patient who is actively dying.
The biggest thing our volunteers can do is, be a friend.
