Join us in making Umoja Diaspora a joyful and impactful festive fundraiser. Black in Mayberry is looking for passionate and enthusiastic volunteers to help bring this one-day Kwanzaa-themed celebration to life!
Why: By volunteering for Umoja Diaspora, you'll play a key role in supporting Black in Mayberry's mission to combat racism through the arts. Your efforts will help us create a joyful and impactful event that raises critical funds to empower Black artists, foster community healing, and educate about systemic inequities. Together, we'll inspire change and uplift voices, ensuring that creativity continues to serve as a powerful tool for justice and unity.
Who: Black in Mayberry is primarily focused on addressing the systemic and institutional racism that robs, burdens and disrupts the lives of Black people in the United States of America. Through the application of art and education we strive for political, social, economic and legal change.
What to Expect:
Setup Crew: Prepare the venue, assist with decorations, and set up workshops and stalls.
Welcome Team: Greet attendees, manage check-in, and share event details.
Workshop Assistants: Help participants create festive art and manage supplies.
Auction and Gift Stall Helpers: Support our live auction and unique gift vendors.
Food & Beverage Helpers: Serve warm drinks and snacks at our festive stalls.
Cleanup Crew: Ensure the space is left spotless after the event.
Social Media & Photography: Capture the magic and engage with our online community.
What's Required:
Time Commitment: Volunteers must commit to at least one full shift (12-5pm or 5pm -9pm)
Skills and Experience: No specialized skills or education are required, but roles like workshop assistants or auction helpers benefit from creativity, organizational skills, or customer service experience.
Physical Demands: Some roles may require light lifting (tables, decorations, supplies) or standing for extended periods. Let us know if you need accommodations.
Dress Code: is all Black. Volunteer badges will be provided.
