ORGANIZATION: Black in Mayberry



Become a Project Leader to support a one-day Kwanzaa-themed event hosted by Black in Mayberry, combining celebration and fundraising to support our mission of combating racism through the arts.

Why: As a part of their mission to combat racism through the arts, Black in Mayberry is hosting a Kwanzaa-themed fundraiser! Your support with this event will help continue the important work that Black in Mayberry is already doing. Their programs and workshops highlight specific racial issues that negatively impact the health and wellbeing of Black people in America. This program is a part of their initiative to promote better mental health and well-being within Black communities.

Who: Black in Mayberry is primarily focused on addressing the systemic and institutional racism that robs, burdens and disrupts the lives of Black people in the United States of America. Through the application of art and education they strive for political, social, economic and legal change.

What to Expect: There are 3 various shifts that we need project leader support for. Here are the different roles and responsibilities that may be performed for each:

Setup Crew: 12:00 PM - 3:30 PM

Venue Preparation: Help arrange tables, chairs, decorations, and signage.

Stall Setup: Assist vendors and artists with setting up their stalls.

Art Workshop Setup: Organize art supplies and prepare the workshop space.

Food and Beverage Prep: Help set up the food and drink stations.

Tech Support: Assist with setting up sound systems, lights, and AV equipment.

Welcome and Registration: 3:30 PM - 6:00 PM

Greeters: Welcome attendees, direct them to different areas of the event, and hand out event programs.

Registration Table: Check attendees in, manage tickets, and provide information about the event.

Donation Station: Encourage donations at the entrance and provide information on Black in Mayberry's mission.

Event Support & Cleanup Crew: 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Workshop Assistants: Help attendees with festive art activities, replenish supplies, and ensure participants are engaged.

Food and Beverage Servers: Assist at food and drink stalls, ensuring smooth service and cleanliness.

Auction Helpers: Display auction items, manage bid sheets or digital bidding tools, and answer questions about auction rules.

Gift Stall Support: Assist vendors and guide attendees to browse and purchase items.

Floater Volunteers: Address any unexpected needs, help attendees, and ensure smooth event flow.

Takedown Assistance: Help vendors, workshop leaders, and auction organizers pack up their materials.

Venue Cleanup: Remove decorations, stack chairs, and ensure the space is left clean and organized.

Inventory Check: Collect leftover supplies, food, and auction items for storage or redistribution.

In general for each shift, Project Leaders may be asked to do the following:

Lead volunteers with their various roles/projects during the event.

Ensure volunteers are working safely, efficiently, and are having fun!

All project leaders will receive trainings the day of. No experience is necessary!

What's Required:

Senstivity and awareness to volunteer in a primarily Black space that is focused on topics such as racism and the intersection where art meets activism.

Must be able to be on your feet during your shift in order to move throughout the event to assist participants with art supplies, refreshments, etc. (This is a calm and slow pace event, so seating will also be provided for volunteers).

Parking is available for all volunteers. More details will be provided upon signup!

Volunteer dress code is black (a black shirt will suffice).
