Green Shoots Foundation sister organization, Green Shoots Resources Organization, in Cambodia has recently been awarded the prestigious US Embassy English Access Microscholarship Program.
The U.S. State Department’s English Access Microscholarship Program (Access Program) provides a foundation of English language skills to talented 13 to 20-year-old youth from economically disadvantaged backgrounds through a two-year program of after school classes and intensive learning sessions. Our Access program is unique because it takes place on the Green Shoots permaculture farm/ agriculture training centre- so we have the privilege to include topics on environmental education, horticulture and plant knoweldge.
Overall, our Access program helps participants to:
- Develop English language skills that lead to better jobs and educational prospects.
- Encourage new ideas, solutions to local problems and building of soft skills
- Enhance their digital literacy skills- such as creating flyers, writing word documents.
We are looking for VOLUNTEER that can join our team in running this program for two years. As a volunteer you will support our program coordinator, teachers and assistant teachers in:
(i) designing play-based learning sessions
(ii) creating materials to enhancing the learning experience of young people
(iii) Assistance with monitoring student progress such as creating learning journeys.
Age Group of students enrolled: Grade 9 and 10. i.e 14 year old to 16 year old
Level of English: Basic-intermediary
Volunteer Details
We are looking for volunteers on a long term basis (4-6 weeks or more) that have experience in teaching and working with young people.
Below are some requirements:
Age: 21 and above
Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Language: Fluent in English.
Experience: Previous involvement in youth programs preferred.
Commitment: Minimum 4 weeks commitment.
Health: Must be in good health and able to provide a medical certificate- as most of the work is outside
Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check.
Orientation: Must attend mandatory pre-departure and on-site training sessions provided by our program coordinator.
