RefugeeOne secures a family’s first apartment, but your team can turn it into a home! Form an Apartment Furnishing Team of 5-10 friends or family members, with one designated as the Team Lead. Please note: RefugeeOne does not have the capacity to match individual volunteers with other teammates. We find it’s best that teams organize themselves and commit together to the work it will take to prepare an apartment for a refugee family.
Refugees arrive in Chicago with few personal belongings. As an apartment furnishing team, you will:
- Source items by gathering the full list of furniture and household goods (new or gently used when acceptable).
- Set-up the apartment 1-3 days before the family arrives by cleaning, moving in the items you collected, and stocking 2-3 weeks of culturally appropriate groceries from a provided list.
