About PROJECT LEDO

Location:

610 SW Alder, Suite 200, Portland, OR 97205, US

Mission Statement

Project LEDO’s mission is to inspire young, underrepresented marginalized BIPOC students to be science and technology leaders. At our hearts we want to encourage innovation and foster well-rounded life capabilities such as self-confidence, communication, and leadership among our BIPOC community of students attending Title 1 Schools in the field of STEM.

Description

Project LEDO was founded by our executive director, Fidel Ferrer, with the idea to support Title I schools in the Portland Public School District, and serves BIPOC, Immigrant and Refugee Children from K-8 in Title I schools in Portland, Oregon. The goal of Project LEDO is to inspire young underrepresented and marginalized students to see themselves represented in the field of science and technology. We engage them in exciting mentor/volunteer-based programs that teach engineering and scientific skills through interactive LEGO building. To promote innovation and to foster life capabilities amongst students such as self-confidence, communication, critical thinking and leadership skills.

Educating and empowering the next generation of youth one step at a time is our primary goal. The consistent weekly mentor/student group gatherings, the relationship building within the community, and a vibrant cultural exchange are some of the main components of our mission.

We reach low-income families through our website, our social media platforms, and advertising. We network with the Black Students Success Summit, the Latino Network First LEGO League, Programa Hacienda, the SUN Coordinator of each school, and IRCO. Our goal is to expand gradually to multiple schools. We have already established successful relationships with two schools in 2019-2020.
