Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: ALS Network

Please join us for the 23rd annual Los Angeles Walk and Roll to Cure ALS (formerly known as the Walk to Defeat ALS)! Whether you participate in honor of someone living with ALS, in memory of loved ones lost, or in support of the entire ALS community, this popular outdoor gathering provides inspiration, meaning, togetherness, and fun for everyone involved.

Why: We expect over 1,200 members of the ALS community to attend our event, whether they are family members, loved ones, care givers, and those living with ALS. This event is a fundraising event that is intended to raise critical funds towards finding a cure for ALS as well as making those affected by ALS feel welcome, seen, and celebrated. Volunteers are a crucial component of what makes our events so impactful, not only to those that attend, but to everyone affected by ALS.

Who: The mission of ALS Network is to partner with the ALS community as we drive the discovery of prevention strategies, treatments, and cures for ALS; provide access to quality care and connection; and promote initiatives to improve health outcomes.

What to Expect: ALS Network has a variety of roles for volunteers to participate in supporting the Walk. All volunteers will receive a volunteer t-shirt and food will be available.

Registration: register same-day registrants, take payment, provide excellent customer service, and accurate data entry.

Check-in: mark already registered attendees off of the registration list, take donations, provide excellent customer service, and accurate data entry.

Incentive distribution: work closely with Check-in booth to distribute fundraising incentives to participants that have earned them, provide excellent customer service, and accurate data entry.

Walk route support: mark the walk route, cheer on the walkers & rollers, hand out waters, ensure participants are following the route, and provide excellent customer service.

Ice Bucket Challenge Booth: (includes lifting up to 20 lbs, bending over) fill up ice buckets with water and ice, engage with participants, dunk willing participants with iced water, and maintain water and ice inventory at the booth.

Button Maker Booth: handle a button press, help people create buttons related to why they're attending the walk, mark off inventory of buttons, and complete accurate data entry.

"The Why" Exhibit: welcome people into the exhibit, explain what the exhibit is, be courteous and respectful (refrain from chatting).

Event Setup/Breakdown: (may require lifting up to 20 lbs, bending over, kneeling) help put up banners and signage, help get people parked in the correct lots, set up food and beverage stations, and other tasks as they come up.

What's Required:

Volunteers are needed from 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, with varying shifts depending on availability.

We are flexible with everyone's schedule, especially as this event is around finals week for students.

Some tasks require some customer service experience, data entry, and money handling. Other than that, just be willing to be of service and put on a smile!
