- Sitting with patients, listening to them, playing games, reading, listening to music, writing a journal or life story with patients, or walking or caring for family pets
- Providing time for a patient's caregiver to take care of themselves
- Helping with mailings and other clerical work
- Help with annual memorial service
- Providing support to family members after a patient's death
