Maintenance and Visitors Center Reception
ORGANIZATION: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Please visit the new page to apply.
Cross Creeks National Wildlife Refuge is 9,000 acres of land that is actively managed to create and maintain optimal wildlife habitat, which makes it a very attractive location for a diversity of wildlife species as well as visitors. This refuge is a wonderful location for fishing, kayaking, wildlife observation and photography, as any local would tell you. If you enjoy meeting new people, advocating for conservation and teaching visitors about this unique location, this opportunity might be a great fit for you. Despite being a smaller scale refuge, there is no shortage of maintenance tasks or field work projects so if you enjoy hands-on work, consider volunteering with us this season. If you have experience with operation of heavy equipment, that would be preferred. Couples and singles are encouraged to apply.
We ask that volunteer campers work 24 hours per week.
For any questions you may have, please reach out to madison_holmes@fws.gov.

Mission Statement
Working with others to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.
Description
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is the premier government agency dedicated to the conservation, protection, and enhancement of fish, wildlife and plants, and their habitats. We are the only agency in the federal government whose primary responsibility is the conservation and management of these important natural resources for the American public.
The agency includes both the National Wildlife Refuge System and the National Fish Hatchery System.
The Service's origins date back to 1871 when Congress established the U.S. Fish Commission to study the decrease in the nation’s food fishes and recommend ways to reverse that decline. (More on our history below.) Today, we are a diverse and largely decentralized organization, employing about 8,000 dedicated professionals working out of facilities across the country.
