Hurricanes Helene and Milton impact showed how vulnerable we all are to losing our homes, belongings, and livelihoods every year. Services and resources were strained before the storms to meet the needs of the homeless. With these disasters, their impact on housing inventory, and the new enforcement laws, it will be devasting to those newly homeless after these disasters .

A critical need in our county is a safe place for people to get help and get housed. That is what we provided with our day shelter, The Lighthouse. We have an opportunity to do more for our homeless neighbors and help people recover from crises.

Accepting Applications for Our Advisory Board

We are expanding our board to help meet the needs of the ever-growing number of people facing homelessness . W e hav e open positions for people from :

• Financial Management

• Accounting

• Marketing

• Law or Law Enforcement

• Government

• Fundraising (individual and corporate donors/partners)

• Health Care (recovery, mental health)

• Lived Experience (recovery, homelessness)

• Faith-based Organization or Ministry

• Corporate/Business Sector

• Increase in crime as people be come more desperate for housing, food, and medication

• Lack in resources to help an increasing homeless population

• Homelessness as a public health safety issue

• People experiencing homelessness being 3-4x more likely to die a premature death

• C ruel and punitive treatment of people who have nowhere to go to plug up a phone, rest from the weather, take a shower, or find safety

• Substance abuse’s impact on chronic homelessness
