Position Summary:

The Repaiman will play a crucial role in supporting the maintenance and upkeep of Girl Scout of CT properties, ensuring that the facilities are safe, clean, and well-prepared for the summer camp season. This volunteer position is ideal for individuals with general maintenance, repair, or construction skills who are looking to make a positive impact on the Girl Scout community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Property Maintenance: Assist in the general upkeep of Girl Scout properties, including minor repairs, painting, carpentry, and other maintenance tasks to ensure the facilities are safe and presentable.
  • Camp Preparation: Help prepare the properties for summer camp, including ensuring that cabins, tents, trails, and campgrounds are in good condition. This may involve assembling or disassembling camp equipment, inspecting structures, and making necessary repairs.
  • Landscaping & Grounds Maintenance: Assist with landscaping tasks such as trimming, mowing, and maintaining the grounds to ensure the camp is ready for campers and staff.
  • Safety Inspections: Participate in regular safety checks of all facilities and equipment to ensure that they meet safety standards. Report any hazards or potential issues to the Facilities Manager.
  • General Repairs: Conduct minor repairs as needed, such as fixing leaks, patching holes, and ensuring plumbing and electrical systems are functioning properly.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other volunteers and staff to coordinate larger maintenance projects and assist in delegating tasks where appropriate.
  • Inventory Support: Assist with maintaining an inventory of supplies and tools, ensuring that equipment is well-maintained and available when needed for camp preparations.
Qualifications:
  • Skills:
    • Experience with general handyman tasks (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, minor construction)
    • Basic knowledge of tools and equipment required for maintenance and repairs
    • Ability to follow safety procedures and protocols
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Attributes:
    • Self-motivated, reliable, and dependable
    • Strong work ethic with a positive, team-oriented attitude
    • Ability to work independently and take initiative when needed
    • Ability to lift and carry equipment, supplies, or materials up to [specify weight] lbs.
  • Experience: Previous volunteer or paid experience in general maintenance or handyman work is preferred but not required.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, standing, bending, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
