Overview
We are seeking mature and committed volunteer tutors to join our team of over 80 volunteers tutoring Ukrainian refugees. The perfect candidate will have experience working with non-english speakers and a background in literacy education and fluency in English.
Duties
- Volunteers will be paired 1-on-1 with Ukrainian students.
- For at least one 30 minute session a week, tutors will have private online meetings to practice conversational English with their Ukrainian partner.
- Volunteers are expected to show up to meetings on time and act maturely and professionally with their students.
- Volunteers are expected to maturely handle their meetings and make their student feel comfortable while helping them improve in English.
- It is important to acknowledge that dealing with war can be extremely difficult and it is normal for their students to exhibit a variety of emotional responses to their trauma.
Experience
- No experience is necessarily required, but the only requirement is that volunteers are proficient in English and do not have a heavy accent which may be difficult for English learners to understand.
- Experience with working with Ukrainians or any other non-English speakers, teaching English in any way, or other volunteer work will definitely be helpful in this role.
If you are passionate about aiding Ukrainian refugees or just helping others and making a difference in peoples' lives, we encourage you to apply for this rewarding opportunity as a Tutor. You will be making a direct impact on your students life and this is also an amazing low-commitment opportunity to bolster your resume for future work or college!
