We're thrilled to share the news about our Free Tax Program! This initiative aims to provide necessary tax assistance to our community, and we would love to have dedicated volunteers join our team. Your help can make a real difference in someone’s life! If you're interested in lending a hand, please get in touch!

Why Volunteer with Us?

· Make a Difference : Help individuals and families navigate their taxes, ensuring they receive the refunds and credits they deserve.

· Gain Valuable Experience : Enhance your skills in tax preparation, customer service, and community outreach.

· Flexible Commitment : Choose volunteer hours that fit your schedule

Volunteer Roles Available:

Greeters/Screeners : Welcome clients and ensure they have the necessary documents.

Client Intake Navigators Helping clients get ready and complete their forms for tax preparers

Tax Preparers : Assist clients in preparing and filing their tax returns.

Tax Reviewers (must have prior tax experience): Seasoned tax preparer to validate returns

Administrative Support : Help with scheduling, data entry, and other administrative tasks.

Training Provided : No prior tax experience is necessary. We offer comprehensive training to ensure you are well-prepared to assist our clients. All volunteers can receive an IRS Certification after training

The United Planning Organization, the designated community action agency for Washington, DC, was established December 10, 1962 to plan, coordinate, and implement human services programs for low-income residents in the Nation's Capital. For over 50 years, UPO has been in the forefront of the war on poverty. As the catalyst for economic security and growth for all Washington, DC residents, UPO has laid the groundwork for innovative social service programs such as weatherization and energy conservation services, Head Start, workforce development training and youth development.
