Dog Walker for Hospice Patient
ORGANIZATION: Cardinal Hospice of South Texas
Please visit the new page to apply.
Hello! Do you love animals and sunshine? We are looking for someone who is available to walk two sweet fur babies (Oreo and Sky) 1-2 times a week. They are a little older, so they only need a 15 minute walk or so. They would also enjoy playing in the backyard occasionally, receiving treats, belly rubs, and pets.
Their owner (aka DAD) is currently in hospice care. He loves his puppies, and it brings him joy to know they are living life to the fullest. They currently reside with him in his room, so you will be able to meet him as well!
This role would work best for someone who lives in North East San Antonio, as that is where the patient and pups are located.
Please fill out the application and select "Hospice Patient Companion" as your role to get started!

Mission Statement
Our mission is to serve all people during the end of life's journey.
Description
The philosophy of hospice is to affirm life by providing support and care to those in the last phase of an incurable illness so that they can live as fully and comfortably as possible. Without volunteers, hospice could not provide the kinds of services which are needed to enhance the quality of the lives of our patients and their families. Each volunteer has a unique set of skills, passions, and life experience that will help provide comfort and support for hospice patients and their families.
Cardinal Hospice serves people in and around the San Antonio area. Our core values are compassion, empathy, honesty, integrity, accountability, respect, teamwork, and service excellence.
Hospice care focuses on caring for people nearing the end of their life. Hospice Care is available to anyone who has a terminal or life-limiting illness, and has been given a prognosis of six months or less. Typically, a family member serves as the primary caregiver and, when appropriate, helps to make decisions for the terminally ill individual. Members of the hospice team make regular visits to assess the patient and provide additional care or other services. The hospice team develops a care plan that meets each patient's individual needs for pain management and symptom control. The team may consist of: a patient's personal Physician, a hospice Physician, Nurses, Home Health Aides, Social Workers, Spiritual Counselors, and hospice-trained Volunteers; Speech, Physical, Occupational, and Massage Therapy are available as needed.
