FinAbility is an Oregon-based nonprofit that financially empowers survivors of domestic violence, so they can break free from the cycle of abuse and thrive.
- Lead 1:1 Financial mentoring sessions and provide information and support navigating topics like:
- Understanding the current state of their finances
- Setting financial goals and budgeting
- Building credit and managing debt
- Protecting their finances
- Developing good financial habits
- Utilize a trauma-informed, empowerment-based approach
- Support fellow volunteers seeking advice on how to best support their client
- Provide program feedback to FinAbility
Commitment
- Sessions are held virtually for 1 hour
- The frequency of sessions will be dictated by need and the shared availability of the Mentor and Mentee. There is no cap on how many sessions a Mentee can participate in
- Mentors must commit to at least 1 year and support a minimum of 1 client a quarter
- Spend 3 to 5 hours a month volunteering (with the option to increase your hours over time). This breaks down to:
- 1 to 2 hours meeting with your client (depending on if meetings are monthly or every other week)
- 1 to 2 hours scheduling, prepping, and debriefing meetings plus answering client’s ad hoc email questions
- 1 hour connecting with other volunteer mentors and contributing to the Financial Mentors Google Group
Application Requirements
- Complete online application materials
- Pass background checks and provide referrals
- Meet with FinAbility staff for an interview
Training and Onboarding
- Initial training takes ~10 hrs upon joining the program
- After completion of the onboarding process, mentors will have with the information, tools, and resources needed to provide mentorship with FinAbility
- Volunteers will receive training provided by the Oregon Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence (OCADSV). The video training will provide information on domestic abuse, working with survivors, and providing trauma-informed support

Provides survivors of domestic abuse free, trauma-informed, and accessible financial mentoring to increase financial confidence, self-sufficiency, and agency.
