The DOD Skillbridge program allows Service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during their last 180 days. For more information on the DOD Skillbridge program, visit DOD SkillBridge (osd.mil) .

First State National Historical Park (FRST) seeks a SkillBridge intern to work with the Interpretation, Education, & Volunteer team. Duties will include providing interpretive programs to the public, creating digital content, assisting with staffing the park’s Visitor Center, etc.

No housing is available; it is recommended applicants live within or adjacent to Delaware. The duration of the program is up to 180 days but is negotiable.


The SkillBridge Interpretative Volunteer’s duties are as listed below:

• The intern will inform visitors about park facilities and resources through formal or informal programs and conversations. Duties are performed on or off-site at locations designated by IEV Division Lead, e.g., visitor centers, historical sites, auditoriums, schools, universities, etc. The intern will learn about the park’s resources by reviewing published maps, park research materials, and other documents previously prepared by park rangers and other professionals and by talking with park staff. They will provide assistance in connection with single or annual celebrations related to the programs and themes of the park and assist in the operations of special events.

• As assigned the intern may perform administrative duties, e.g., gathering routine information for reports, compilation of statistical data, filing, etc.

• As assigned the intern may, create engaging digital content for the park’s social media platforms, website, and app.
