Are you looking for a way to give back to folks in your community? Do you have the desire to provide real, meaningful, one-on-one support to folks impacted by sexual violence? If so, the Sexual Assault Crisis Service would love to have you as a member of our volunteer team!
This 48 hour certification training is held by YWCA New Britain Sexual Assault Crisis Service (SACS). Classes are facilitated by certified counselors, experienced professionals, and survivors of sexual violence. Upon completion of the course, participants will have a better understanding of sexual violence and its impact on survivors and their loved ones. They will be state certified to serve as sexual assault crisis counselors on our 24/7 hotline.
The cost of this training is $85, though no one will be turned away for inability to pay.
Training topics include:
History of the anti-sexual violence movement, the sexual violence continuum, child sexual abuse, rape culture, male survivors, mandated reporting, medical, police, and legal procedures, survivors’ rights, empowerment, impact of trauma, crisis intervention, and much more!
Please note: Interviews must be completed prior to start of class. Class will meet four times a week, Monday-Thursday. We will be meeting Mondays and Wednesdays in person at the Connecticut Alliance to End Sexual Violence in East Hartford, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays over Zoom.

Mission Statement
The Sexual Assault Crisis Service of the YWCA New Britain offers free, confidential services to survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones.
Description
We offer assistance to sexual assault survivors and their loved ones. All services offered are confidential and absolutely FREE.
We focus on empowering survivors of sexual assault to make their own decisions. We do not give advice or tell you what to do. We are here to listen without judgment, and to provide a safe and healing environment. We believe all survivors of sexual assault can heal, and are capable of deciding what is right for them.
We address the issue of sexual assault through counseling and advocacy within 46 communities. We provide a 24-hour confidential English and Spanish hotline, staffed by volunteers and staff who are trained and certified in sexual assault crisis intervention and advocacy. We provide bilingual counselors, sign language interpreters, and male counselors upon request.
