Recruiting Organization: Honey W. Nashman Center for Civic Engagement & Public Service

The Community Engagement and Outreach Fellow will collaborate with the Nashman Center, DCPS, and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to manage and evaluate strategic partnerships. They will build capacity by creating communication plans to conduct outreach to stakeholders and program evaluation to measure and report on community impact. We are recruiting a VISTA to serve full-time (40hrs a week) for 1 year in Washington, DC with the Nashman Center Math Matters program starting Fall 2024. In addition to AmeriCorps benefits, VISTAs participating in this program will receive initial orientation training as well as professional development opportunities throughout their term, serving in a cohort model with other VISTAs in this program, paid transportation for work travel, and experience in education equity and developing Higher Education/K-12 partnerships.

Benefits for Members:

Benefits include a monthly living allowance of $2074 (before taxes), an education award ($6,895) or stipend ($1,800) at the completion of your term, health coverage, child care assistance, relocation reimbursement, deferral or forbearance of school loan repayments, personal and medical leave, potential eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit, travel payment to attend the Pre-Service Orientation, and reimbursement for some other work-related travel expenses. The VISTA also receives regular training and support, the chance to collaborate with other VISTAs in the program, and the unique benefits and opportunities of living and working in Washington, D.C. This is a great opportunity to build education-related knowledge and experience, as well skills in data management, project management, and communications.

A Community Engagement and Outreach VISTA will be able to successfully:

  • Develop engaging content for newsletters, blog posts, and social media; •Experience with data collection and assessment;
  • Ability to generate user-friendly reports and recommendations based on data;
  • Experience with recruiting and training volunteers
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, take initiative, communicate progress, and achieve goals.
  • Working knowledge of spreadsheet software like google sheets and excel
