Youth For Understanding (YFU) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating enriching cultural exchanges for high school students coming to study in the U.S. Our mission is to foster global understanding and empower young people through the transformative experience of cultural exchange.

In this role, you will actively promote our cultural exchange program by engaging with community members, including friends, family, and school administrators, to recruit and support volunteer host families. You will receive comprehensive support and tools to effectively place exchange students with dedicated hosts and schools in your area. As a Local Coordinator, you will have the exciting opportunity to:

  • Recruit enthusiastic and qualified host families within your community by delivering engaging presentations, attending local events, and reaching out to interested families.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for host families and exchange students, offering essential support and conducting monthly check-ins to ensure a positive experience.
  • Enhance YFU’s presence by networking with local non-profits, attending business networking events, and collaborating with athletic teams and other community organizations.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with school officials and community leaders to promote YFU’s mission and initiatives.
  • Organize and coordinate vibrant YFU social events for students and host families, including gatherings like Friendsgiving, pumpkin carving, and bonfires, creating memorable experiences for all involved.
