This role will become a part of the organization's board of directors. We are seeking someone with broad Human Resource skills and experience that can help guide the organization on the path to sustainable employee growth, and creating a sound foundation of people policies, procedures and practices.
We are seeking someone that would qualify and be a passionate Human Resource Committee Chair. Some of the responsibilities and tasks are:
- Ownership of human resource strategies
- Review and approval of executive compensation packages
- Monitoring succession planning for executive leadership and the board
- Development & approval of policies that serve to protect the organization and manage exposure to risk
- Contractor/Consultant oversight
- Performance & disciplinary procedures
- Ensuring the organization adheres to all relevant employment laws and regulations regarding discrimination, harassment, and other employment practices
- Advising the board and CEO on broader workforce concerns, strategies for attracting, retaining and developing talent within the organization
- Overseeing initiatives to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the organization’s culture
- Identifying and mitigating potential HR-related risks

Mission Statement
The mission of Courthouse Dogs Foundation is to promote justice with compassion through the use of professionally trained facility dogs to provide emotional support to everyone in the justice system. Most of these dogs are utilized to support children who have been victims of abuse, helping them feel safe enough to talk with a detective or testify in court. A courthouse facility dog is a professionally trained dog that is placed with a legal professional for the purpose of providing support to individuals in the criminal justice system.
Description
As an independent nonprofit organization, we strive to accomplish our mission by
- Educating members of the public and legal professionals about the benefits of facility dogs
- Guiding governmental agencies (prosecutor offices and law enforcement agencies) and nonprofit organizations (child advocacy centers and victim advocacy groups) in program development using a best practices model
- Supporting nonprofit service dog organizations that train and place facility dogs
- Encouraging and facilitating scientific research on the use of facility dogs
