Position Purpose:The Volunteer Dean of Medical Science - Foundational Sciences for students aged 8-17 serves as a primary educational mentor, planner, and facilitator. This role involves designing and leading engaging foundational science programs tailored for youth, training volunteer instructors, nurturing curiosity, coordinating virtual learning activities, and guiding students in their scientific and personal growth. Qualifications:

  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the medical science online platform for youth.
  • Passion for engaging with children and teens in a virtual educational setting.
  • Proven ability to lead and collaborate with volunteer, instructors and teachers to deliver age-appropriate content.
  • Strong enthusiasm, adaptability, patience, and a supportive attitude when working with diverse groups of students.
  • Experience creating, organizing, and leading youth-centered, hands-on medical science programs or lessons.
  • Experience supervising educational staff or volunteers.
  • At least one season of leadership in youth education or relevant program experience is preferred.
Essential Job Functions:
Educational Leadership and Engagement:
  • Lead all aspects of planning to facilitate engaging virtual learning experiences for students ages 8-17, ensuring that activities meet developmental and educational outcomes.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and stimulating environment for all students, encouraging curiosity and enthusiasm for learning foundational sciences.
  • Collaborate with the teachers to align educational content and activities with platform objectives and the developmental needs of learners.
Program Design and Facilitation:
  • Develop age-appropriate lessons and hands-on science activities tailored to different age groups (8-12 and 13-17).
  • Use interactive teaching methods, including experiments, demonstrations, games, and virtual simulations, to enhance understanding and interest in foundational sciences.
  • Adapt content and teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles, ensuring accessibility and inclusion for all participants.
  • Lead a steering committee to schedule relevant special guests, appearances and live events.
Volunteer Training and Mentorship:
  • Foster a supportive community among volunteers by providing guidance, feedback, and opportunities for collaborative planning and problem-solving.
  • Serve as a resource for teachers and volunteers, offering tools, tips, and strategies to optimize student engagement and learning outcomes.
Well-Being and Safety:
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and encouraging virtual learning environment where students feel valued and respected.
  • Be responsive to students’ needs, including social-emotional well-being, learning challenges, and group dynamics, and work to resolve concerns with care and professionalism.
  • Uphold platform policies and standards related to online safety, privacy, and student conduct, serving as a role model and mentor atmosphere.
Be a Role Model to Teachers and Volunteers:
  • Follow and uphold ethical guidelines in the virtual learning environment, including online conduct, privacy protection, and respectful communication.
  • Demonstrate integrity, enthusiasm, and professionalism in all interactions, setting a positive example for teachers, students and volunteers.
  • Promote and facilitate respectful dialogue and collaboration, embracing diverse perspectives and learning styles to create a supportive learning community.
  • Foster a culture of respect, curiosity, and a passion for science, embodying the values and mission of the online platform.
Leadership Responsibilities/Tasks:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for guiding, and nurturing instructors and staff, ensuring alignment with program goals and a shared commitment to positive youth engagement.
  • Work collaboratively with HR to ensure all volunteers are set up for success, providing the necessary tools, encouragement, and a structured plan to foster impactful educational experiences.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and emergency response protocols specific to the online learning environment.
  • Serve as the lead contact for teachers ensuring they feel supported, guided, and valued in their roles.
  • Assign instructional responsibilities to volunteers and provide ongoing coaching and resources to help them succeed.
  • Organize and lead periodic virtual meetings with volunteers to review progress, discuss challenges, and celebrate successes.
  • Promptly report any student concerns or incidents, including suspected safety or well-being issues, to the Program Director. Collaborate on appropriate interventions and follow-up actions, maintaining communication and transparency throughout.
