This position supports the Regional Disaster Cycle Services department. Save lives and prevent injuries by providing free education to community members. Lead a team and/or specific aspect of the Community Disaster Education program by working with paid and volunteer staff and following program guidance.

Key Responsibilities

The Preparedness Division provides appropriate preparedness programming within a community to assist community members to prepare for home fires and other disasters. Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Providing ongoing supervision to Team Members
  • Follow all standards and procedures for implementing and delivering community disaster education programs in the chapter/territory
  • Ensure the chapter/territory achieves its fiscal year target for Community Disaster Education (if applicable)
  • Work with volunteer services to recruit volunteers and ensure all presenters are trained according to program requirements
  • Work with all Red Cross lines of service to build a robust outreach and community engagement program, for example, working with Services to the Armed Forces in the region to offer programs at military bases in the region
  • Work with program leadership, chapter/territory volunteers, workforce engagement leads and other within Disaster Cycle Services to ensure Community Disaster Education presentations are successfully scheduled and staffed appropriately
  • Coordinate presentations in the same zip codes as the Home Fire Campaign, and build community partnerships with organizations like Boys and Girls Clubs and YMCAs, as well as other disaster partners
  • Attend applicable training webinars and workshops
  • Complete other required tasks in a timely fashion
  • Ensure all data is reporting according to program parameters; and
  • Provide national headquarters with ideas, stories and lessons learned that could improve the programs
  • Facilitate the identification and mentoring of new volunteer leadership

Qualifications

  • Willingness to comply with Red Cross COVID-19 policies for in-person volunteer activities.
  • Ability to build and lead a team using a collaborative leadership style, required
  • Program or project management experience, required
  • Demonstrates traits of honesty, forward looking, required
  • Capacity to envision the team's impact in their area and inspire them into action, required
  • Ability to communicate how the team fits into the larger DCS structure and how their actions can positively influence and support the DCS Program as a whole, required
  • Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups and individuals, required
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, required
  • Demonstrated ability to read, understand, and review program guidelines and tools, required
