About the Role:
Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity where you can directly support patient care and improve the healthcare experience for others? Join our team as an Appointment Scheduling Support Staff member and play a key role in ensuring that patients are scheduled for their necessary appointments in a timely and organized manner. This is a great opportunity to use your clinical background and communication skills to make a real difference in our community's healthcare system.
As an Appointment Scheduling Support Staff volunteer, you'll work closely with our team to streamline appointment processes, communicate with patients and staff, and help keep our referral system running smoothly. If you're detail-oriented, enjoy problem-solving, and want to be part of a team that’s committed to excellent patient care, we would love for you to join us!
What You’ll Do:
- Manage appointment statuses: Review pending appointments verify whether appointments have been completed and update accordingly.
- Link visit notes and referrals: Ensure visit notes are attached to referral orders, and close out completed cases in the system.
- Coordinate with the team: Communicate with staff to determine whether an appointment needs to be scheduled and take appropriate action if it hasn't already been completed.
- Reach out to patients: In some cases, you may need to contact patients directly (or through front desk staff) to determine if they still require an appointment and help schedule it as needed.
What We’re Looking For:
- Clinical experience in a healthcare setting (preferred but not required).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with staff and patients.
- Ability to multitask and manage appointment statuses in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with EMR systems (preferably Athena) is a plus, but not essential.
- A detail-oriented and organized individual who thrives in a team-based setting and enjoys helping others.
Why Volunteer With Us?
This volunteer role is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in healthcare coordination, especially if you're looking to build on your clinical background. You'll be a key player in ensuring that patients receive the timely care they need by helping to manage appointments and streamline processes. Plus, you'll work alongside a dedicated team that values communication, collaboration, and patient-centered care.
Volunteering in this position offers you the chance to make a real impact, help our healthcare system run more efficiently, and contribute to a positive patient experience. Whether you're a healthcare professional or someone with strong organizational and communication skills, this role is a perfect way to give back to the community and make a meaningful difference.
