What You'll Do:
- Connect with patients: Notify patients of upcoming appointments and provide all necessary details to ensure they feel informed and prepared.
- Coordinate with providers: Track and send patient records to hospitals and specialists, ensuring smooth referrals and timely care.
- Manage workflows: Review and update patient referral statuses using Athena EMR software to keep things running efficiently.
- Follow up for success: Stay on top of referral statuses, proactively ensuring that every patient gets the timely care they deserve.
- Make an impact: Help ensure that all referrals are managed correctly and in a way that contributes to optimal patient outcomes.

What We’re Looking For:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field (healthcare administration, nursing, etc.).
- Some experience in the medical field or healthcare environment is a plus.
- A bilingual individual (Spanish and English) with strong communication skills.
- Someone who is organized, detail-oriented, and can work independently with confidence.
- An individual who can maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA guidelines.

Mission Statement

Bergen Volunteer Medical Initiative provides FREE primary care to low-income, working Bergen County, NJ residents who do not have health insurance. Our goal is to keep our patients out of the emergency room. We believe that how people are treated during a visit to BVMI’s Healthcare Center is as important as the medical care they receive.

Description

BVMI is a nonprofit healthcare center which opened in November, 2009. In 2023, we served over 1,200 patients in Bergen County. Care is provided by volunteer doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners and other clinicians. BVMI is supported solely through contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations and is one of 100 Volunteers in Medicine clinics in the US.
