Recruiting Organization: Flatbush Cats
Flatbush Cats is a TNR-focused 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to end the cat overpopulation crisis in Brooklyn.
We can only rescue friendly street cats when they have somewhere to go, so an effective foster program is a crucial part of our mission. We are seeking a volunteer Foster Coordinator to provide oversight and guidance to a growing team of foster caregivers. This is a remote position, Brooklyn preferred.
FOSTER COORDINATOR VOLUNTEER ROLE DESCRIPTION:
The Foster Coordinator plays a key role in our ability to help as many cats as possible. Coordinators typically manage approximately 5 - 8 foster "cases" - ensuring that each foster caregiver volunteer has the support they need to succeed. This role requires approximately 5-10 hours per week (flexible with your schedule).
Primary responsibilities include:
- Onboard new foster parents and set them up to succeed
- Maintain weekly check-ins with 5-8 active foster homes
- Provide guidance and track milestones
- Request photos and videos for social updates and adoption listings
- Refer medical issues to our Medical Consultant as needed
BENEFITS OF BEING A FOSTER COORDINATOR:
You will be enabling the rescue of friendly cats (by our Community Cats team) from the streets into caring foster homes so they can then be adopted! This is an opportunity to use your love for animals and people by helping us in our mission to reduce the outdoor cat population in Brooklyn. Gain valuable skills and experience, and volunteer with a dedicated team of animal lovers.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
Excellent communication, record keeping and computer skills. Mature, reliable, organized, and detail-oriented. Must love people and cats. Ability to treat all people with respect, compassion and professionalism. Prior experience as a cat foster parent. Positive and solution-oriented. Familiarity/experience with cats. Experience with Google Suite and Slack preferred, familiarity with AirTable software helpful, but not required. Training provided.
This role requires approximately 5-10 hours per week (flexible with your schedule).
Flatbush Cats believes that diversity and inclusion among our teammates is critical to our success in achieving our Mission and Vision. Our goal is to be a diverse organization that is representative, at all levels, of the community we serve.
We are committed to providing an environment of mutual respect where equal employment opportunities are available to all applicants and teammates without regard to race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy (including childbirth, lactation and related medical conditions), national origin, age, physical and mental disability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information (including characteristics and testing), military and veteran status, and any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
