Volunteer with Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group on the King County Parks-owned West Sammamish River Trail in Woodinville to restore Chinook, Coho, and Sockeye salmon habitat!
This will be a special planting event because we will be working with livestakes! We have over 1,000 livestakes ready to get in the groud! Species include Stika Willow, Red Osier Dogwood, and Douglas Spirea.
Livestakes are clippings taken from mature native plants, usually 3 to 5 feet long. After harvesting, clipplings are steaked into the ground where they can grow into an entirely new plant. Not all plant species can be propogated using livestakes, but this is a common planting technique for willows and other shoreline plants.
Most of our event time will be dedicated to planting these livestakes, and any remianing time will be spent clearing invasive Himalayan Blackberry from the river's shoreline.
Upon signing up you will receive a confirmation email from VolunteerMatch. Mid Sound's Stewardship Coordinator, Molly, will send a reminder email with event details and the youth wavier the Wednesday before the event.
**If you are under 18 and attending without a parent or guardian, please also print and fill out the Youth Waiver Form and bring it with you to the event!**

Mission Statement
Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group works to involve local people in projects that will ensure a future for wild salmon.
Description
Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group is dedicated to helping landowners and communities protect their local fish. We practice fisheries and stream restoration in the King and Kitsap Counties in Washington State. Our service area includes the Green/Duwamish River watershed, the Lake Washington/Cedar River watershed, isolated streams flowing into Puget Sound in King County, and all watersheds in eastern Kitsap County. We use habitat restoration projects - such as streamside fencing, native tree planting, and fish passage improvements - as catalysts to building community partnerships. As one of 14 Regional Fisheries Enhancement Groups in Washington State, we are part of a coordinated effort to restore fish habitat in the state.
