When: Friday, December 20th from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm

Description:

South Bronx United Inc. (SBU) is a sports-based youth development organization that uses soccer as a tool for social change. Its mission is to prepare youth to succeed in high school, college, careers, their community and beyond. SBU serves more than 1,400 young people annually through programming on the field and in the classroom, including academic enrichment and tutoring, college prep, mentoring, leadership development, health and wellness, immigration legal services, and other individual and family support.

SBU operates a community store in our Clubhouse once a month. Our community store is a free store where community members are invited to pick up items they may need. Our community store includes items such as clothes, non perishable food, household items and more. SBU is looking for volunteers to assist with setting up the store, greeting community members, replenishing items and cleaning up.

Time Commitment:

Please note- this is an in-person volunteer opportunity.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with setting up the store- setting up tables and laying out out items in an attractive manner

  • Helping community members in the store- finding items in certain sizes and passing out bags

  • Answering questions about the store or directing them to SBU staff members

  • Cleaning up the store- putting items away and cleaning up the Clubhouse back to it’s original condition

Desired qualifications:

  • Ability to lift 20 lbs and move items such as clothing, household items, etc.

  • Ability to communicate with community members and staff

  • Spanish-speaking skills desired as many community members speak Spanish.

South Bronx United is a youth development organization dedicated on serving the South Bronx through education, mentoring, and soccer programs. Our goal is use the sport and the strength of mentoring to help boys and girls, ages 4-19, develop as leaders and scholars.
