Navarro Mills Lake is looking for a long-term park host volunteer for Oak Park. Volunteers will be asked to commit to at least one year of service. The duty of a park host volunteer is to help with oversight of the assigned park including opening and closing the gates in accordance with park hours, checking campers in and out and making sales in R1S, patrolling the park at least 3 times per day to ensure campers are on the correct sites, monitoring day use and ensuring visitors have paid a fee or displayed a proper pass, and occasional light maintenance tasks. The volunteer will be required to wear a uniform, make contact with the public to inform them of USACE rules and regulations, and report issues to the Volunteer Coordinator or another Park Ranger on duty. Camper information and other personally identifiable information (PII) will be handled with care in accordance with training and the volunteer handbook. Volunteer will also perform additional duties as needed by Corps employees including minor maintenance tasks and will be expected to work a minimum of 20 hours per week but may be asked to work more. The Corps will furnish a 50amp site with sewer hookup.
Requirements:
- Must be able to pass a background check
- Volunteer must provide their own camper (must be in good repair and appearance) or local housing
- Must have a vehicle to perform patrol rounds through the park
- Ability to communicate politely and effectively with the public and USACE staff, contactors, and volunteers
- Ability to maintain a set schedule of around 20 hours per week (currently volunteers work a 2 day shift with 4-6 days off)
