Join our Food Rescue program and help us serve the Brooklyn community by picking up donations from our partner, Brooklyn Bread Cafe! Your efforts support CHiPS in reducing food waste and providing meals and pantry bags to individuals and families in need.

Locations and Schedule:

  • Park Slope Location (7th Avenue/10th Street): Monday through Friday, pickup at 5:45 PM.
  • Carroll Gardens Location (Court Street/2nd Place): Monday through Friday, pickup at 3:45 PM.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Collect food donations from designated locations and deliver them to CHiPS at 200 4th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11217.
  • Ensure the safe transport of items including produce, dairy, and prepared foods.

Your volunteer work will directly support individuals experiencing food insecurity, and each pickup ensures that we can make a greater impact in our community.

Community Help in Park Slope (CHiPS), located at the corner of 4th Avenue and Sackett Street in Park Slope, has been operating as a community-supported soup kitchen and food pantry since 1971. We serve upwards of 500 meals per day and 300 pantry bags per week to the individuals and families who visit us.

About CHiPS Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry

Location:

200 4th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11217, US

Mission Statement

OUR PHILOSOPHY SINCE 1971, CHiPS (Community Help in Park Slope, Inc.) has been a community of Brooklyn neighbors, volunteers, and friends who share a common vision to help those who are less fortunate. We prepare hot, nutritious meals and serve them in a caring and dignified environment. All our services are offered free of charge through the generosity of our community.

Description

OUR PROGRAMS: Hot Meals, Pantry Bags, Transitional Residence
Last year,
- our soup kitchen served 170,000 nutritious breakfasts, hot lunches, and bagged lunches-to-go to our neighbors who could not afford a meal.
- our food pantry distributed over 10,000 bags of pantry staples for our neighbors to cook nutritious meals at home.
- our Frances Residency Program, founded by the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor and named after their founder Mother Frances Schriver, sheltered 9 young mothers and their babies, and provided counseling and services.

PARTNER WITH US

We invite you to partner with CHiPS in service, and be part of our wonderful team of schools, churches, synagogues, and individuals whose generous donations have helped CHiPS stay strong for over 50 years. For example, the Park Slope Food Coop has supported us with food donations and volunteers. Our solution is simple: keep it local, and see immediate results.

Your support can make a huge difference. We're talking about basic needs, where a little can go a very long way.
