Description

Job Title: Volunteer Social Media Advocate for Coral Reef Conservation

About The World Federation for Coral Reef Conservation:

Join a small nonprofit organization of passionate team members dedicated to the conservation of coral reefs, working for over 16 years to protect one of Earth’s most precious ecosystems. We’re a global, grassroots organization on a mission to create awareness, mobilize communities, and support reef restoration efforts worldwide. As our new Social Media Advocate, you’ll help amplify our message and engage individuals in tracking and sharing the health of coral reefs worldwide--before it’s too late.

Position Overview:

We’re seeking an enthusiastic volunteer or a skilled Social Media Advocate--either a motivated volunteer or a seasoned professional--who can bring our message to life across social media. Your role will be to design, share, and promote content that inspires individuals to contribute their own marine observations, helping to build a collaborative GIS database of coral reef health observations and drive meaningful action. Through storytelling, engagement, and advocacy, you’ll be helping others understand the urgency of coral conservation and how observations will support any replanting and rebuilding programs worldwide after the catastrophic Anterocone mass coral die off.

Key Responsibilities:

Content Creation & Storytelling: Develop compelling, visually impactful posts, videos, and stories that illustrate the urgent need for coral reef conservation and restoration. Share successes, insights, and on-the-ground stories from our global network.

Community Engagement: Encourage coastal stakeholders to document and share observations of local reefs, building a network of citizen scientists contributing to coral reef health monitoring.

Campaign Management: Plan and execute social media campaigns focused on raising awareness, increasing engagement, and driving active participation in coral conservation.

Education & Awareness: Use creative messaging and factual content to highlight the importance of coral reefs, the threats they face, and how individual efforts can support restoration and preservation.

Analytics & Strategy: Track engagement, impressions, and follower growth to continually refine content strategy, maximizing impact and reach across platforms.

Ideal Candidate Skills:

Passion for Conservation: A genuine interest in marine ecosystems, environmental advocacy, and coral reef preservation in the current environment.

Social Media Savvy: Proficiency with platforms like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and emerging trends and Web development exposure.

Visual Design Ability: Basic graphic design or photo editing skills are a plus to create visually engaging content.

Storytelling: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an eye for storytelling that resonates with diverse audiences and age groups.

Why Join WFCRC?

Make a Global Impact: Help build a world where coral reefs thrive for generations to come.

Gain Experience in Conservation Media: Hone your social media and communications skills within a meaningful cause and build your professional experience.

Be Part of a Legacy: Join an organization that’s been a dedicated voice for coral reefs for over 16 years, helping to shape the future of marine conservation.

If you're ready to use your talents to make a real difference and inspire others to help protect coral reefs and build your professional experience, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today and join us in taking urgent action--before they are all gone.
