The Ashtabula Maritime Museum is looking for volunteers with a passion for non-profit organizations and maritime history. This volunteer opportunity is based out of the Ashtabula Maritime and Surface Transportation Museum. The Historical Interpretation Volunteer should be passionate about history, research, and teaching others. This opportunity offers a wide variety of historical projects, such as becoming a museum docent, helping to design new programs, writing historical articles, and getting hands-on experience with museum management. The museum is open 12-4 pm Friday- Monday but does not require volunteers to be on-site during open hours.
Duties and Responsibilities: Flexible opportunities based on experience and interests
Learning Ashtabula Maritime History
Becoming a museum docent who speaks to visitors and school groups about Ashtabula’s history
Conducting research projects that aline with the museum's mission
Writing and publishing historical articles
Helping to create and work with establish a historical program

THE ASHTABULA MARITIME AND SURFACE TRANSPORTATION MUSEUM is dedicated to the preservation, display, and interpretation of Great Lakes harbors, maritime, Coast Guard, and rail history, particularly as it relates to persons, ships, railroad trains, and events that impacted the nation and northeast Ohio in general.
Description
The Ashtabula Maritime Museum is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1984. It is located inside an old lightkeeper's house and is dedicated to preserving the unique maritime history of Ashtabula, Ohio. We aim to increase our awareness of the maritime advancements made in Ashtabula that significantly impacted the shipping of the Great Lakes. Projects include collections management, visitor services, historians, and more.
