ORGANIZATION: ASHTABULA MARITIME & SURFACE TRANSPORTATION MUSEUM INC

The Ashtabula Maritime Museum is looking for volunteers who are passionate about non-profit organizations and maritime history. This volunteer opportunity is based at the Ashtabula Maritime and Surface Transportation Museum. Visitor Center and Gift Shop operations are focused on providing excellent customer service to visitors and maintaining and making sales in the gift shop. The museum is currently open 12-4 p.m. Friday through Monday.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform opening and closing procedures for the museum.

  • Greet museum visitors at the front desk.

  • Answer visitor questions both in person and by telephone.

  • Educate visitors on the layout and history of the museum.

  • Provide a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

  • Handles cash and makes sales.

THE ASHTABULA MARITIME AND SURFACE TRANSPORTATION MUSEUM is dedicated to the preservation, display, and interpretation of Great Lakes harbors, maritime, Coast Guard, and rail history, particularly as it relates to persons, ships, railroad trains, and events that impacted the nation and northeast Ohio in general.

Description

The Ashtabula Maritime Museum is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1984. It is located inside an old lightkeeper's house and is dedicated to preserving the unique maritime history of Ashtabula, Ohio. We aim to increase our awareness of the maritime advancements made in Ashtabula that significantly impacted the shipping of the Great Lakes. Projects include collections management, visitor services, historians, and more.
