ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

Volunteers help the National Mall function at its best by creating a hospitable and visitor-centered environment. Volunteers stationed at the front desk of the National Mall Headquarters help achieve this mission by helping office-based staff with administrative tasks.


Major Duties:

Check-in visitors and direct them to the appropriate office.

Answer phone calls and provide information about the park as well as directions to/within the park.

Fulfill passport stamp requests and other non-sensitive mail correspondence.

Maintain a neat and organized workspace.

Occasional driving of government vehicles may be required, under the supervision of NPS staff.


Must be able to use common office and communication equipment (multi-line telephones, desk top computers, copiers, fax machines, postage machine, etc.). Work is performed in an office that is closed to the public. Work is primarily sedentary and takes place in a well-lit, and climate-controlled s pace.

Requirements:

Age: 18 or older (younger applicants with parental/guardian approval may be considered). Volunteers must wear park-issued volunteer uniform and name tag. As representatives of The National Park Service and Trust for the National Mall, volunteers must adhere to the policies, procedures, and code of conduct as outlined in the volunteer handbook provided prior to or during training.

Hours / Days of Operation:

Days of operation: Currently recruiting for Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Front Desk Volunteers can be onsite 1-2 days a week. Shifts are 4 hours each, from 8am to 12pm and 12pm to 4pm. Shift times are flexible if candidate can meet a 9am-3pm schedule.

Training:

Volunteers will be directly guided by park staff in required responsibilities.
