Want to save lives from the comfort of your own home? Become a foster parent with LIC Feral Feeders and help us bring strays indoors so they can live the VIP life!
Read the following to determine if fostering is the right role for you:
-We’re based in Western Queens, so it would be best for foster parents to live in the area or be able to commute here. Most of our foster parents are located in Long Island City, Astoria, and surrounding areas. If you don't live in the neighborhood but are willing to travel to the area to pick up your foster placement and/or take them to vet visits, we encourage you to foster with us.
-All experience levels are welcome! We will be mentoring and guiding you throughout the process. We will match you with a cat that suits your experience level and interests (kittens, adults, seniors, etc). Whether you have never interacted with a feline before or are a well seasoned foster parent, there will always be one (or more) kitties in need of shelter in your home.
-We provide medical care to foster placements upon intake including flea/mite treatment, dewormer, and vaccines. Foster parents are expected to provide food, litter, toys, and regularly needed supplies to their placements. Not able to do that? Let's talk and see if we can work something out!
-We ask for a minimum commitment of 4 weeks. Just in case your foster placement needs to be transferred to another foster home, we need to ensure there is enough time to coordinate that change. If you are unsure about adopting a pet, fostering is a great way to learn if you’re ready to be a cat parent for life!
-Foster parents must be excellent with remote communication. You are expected to provide regular photo and video updates, work with us to provide your placement(s) with the required medical services, and host virtual/in person meet and greets for potential adopters.
If this sounds like a volunteer position you could take on, be sure to complete our Foster Application and Agreement form!

Mission Statement
In the bustling streets of NYC, a vast number of homeless cats roam unnoticed. LICFF is dedicated to making a meaningful impact by actively reducing its population. Through our compassionate efforts, we trap, neuter, and return these cats, providing essential care along the way. Additionally, we rescue cats in distress and assist in finding loving homes for those who are socialized. Our commitment extends beyond rescue work as we strive to educate the public, fostering a more inclusive and compassionate community for our feline companions in Long Island City and its surroundings.
Description
We are a united group of Long Island City residents who have come together out of shared concern for the well-being of the cats within our community. While we all have our regular "day jobs," we dedicate a significant portion of our free time engaging in TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) initiatives, rescuing cats in need, and providing care for cat colonies. Our team of devoted volunteers is bound by a common thread: an immense love and profound respect for these incredible creatures.
The initial members who established LICFF made an intriguing revelation: they were all independently providing sustenance to the same community cats, albeit at different times. Fate intervened in 2017 when they unexpectedly crossed paths and recognized the significance of pooling their resources. They promptly joined forces, coordinating their efforts and laying the foundation for a more organized approach. This collaboration marked the transformative moment that propelled the group's growth into a fully-fledged, registered 501(c)3 organization. Over time, the organization attracted additional volunteers and trained rescuers, establishing a robust network of individuals who readily respond to community requests for feline-related assistance.
