DWC's Housing First and trauma-informed service model includes access to basic needs and resources through our Day Center, where participants can receive three daily meals and access to showers, restrooms, clean clothing, mail services, telephones, case management, and healthcare.
Why: As the first point of entry for women coming through DWC's doors, it's vital that we create a safe, welcoming space for the folks receiving services in our community. The more welcome participants feel, the more likely they are to sign up for our case management and counseling services, as well as any of our other housing, health and wellness, employment and job-readiness, and advocacy programming.
Who: Founded in 1978, the Downtown Women's Center (DWC) is the only organization in Los Angeles focused exclusively on serving women and gender diverse individuals experiencing homelessness.
What to Expect: Day Center volunteers support DWC staff by welcoming participants; helping distribute toiletry items; signing folks up for services; participating in and/or leading enrichment activities (if desired); and more.
