The East Central Area Literacy Council in partnership with East Central College is seeking individuals interested in serving as classroom assistants and/or tutors for English language acquisition classes offered in Rolla and Union.
No special academic degrees are required to be a tutor. East Central Area Literacy Council volunteer tutors must:
- Complete New Tutor Training at East Central Area Literacy Council (approximately 3 hours - training is free and is scheduled individually).
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Be willing to undergo a criminal background check through Missouri Automated Criminal History System Name Search at https://www.machs.mshp.dps.mo.gov/MACHSFP/home.html and National Sex Offender check at http://www.nsopw.gov/en-US.
Classroom assistants support the work of the instructor by handing out course materials, monitoring student progress, and assisting with technology.
Tutors work one-on-one with individuals or small groups who desire to acquire English language skills or prepare to take the test to earn citizenship. English language tutors need to be fluent in English and sensitive to cultural differences.
We have 2 class options in Rolla, the morning class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and the evening class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The amount of hours you will work is flexible.
