EVENT: 4th Annual Crab Feed Fundraiser -- Proceeds will provide free rides for eligible veterans to and from their VA-scheduled medical appointments using the DAV Volunteer Transportation Network.

Volunteer Position: VOLUNTEER BREAK-ROOM ATTENDANT HELPER

Commitment Time: 1:00 pm to 8:30 pm, Saturday, February 22, 2025

Description of Volunteer Duties:

Checks in and out with the timekeeper.

Works in a team environment with other volunteers.

Interfaces with the event attendees courteously and professionally.

Must wear a provided volunteer identification at all times during the event.

Maintains good communication with their volunteer team.

Will be stationed in the volunteer break-room. Team lead delegates to helper attendants.

Is responsible for managing and maintaining the volunteer break-room. Must have a designated volunteer cover their position when leaving the room. This room cannot be left unattended.

Controls the volunteer sign-in sheets and volunteer identification markers (badges, wristbands), which can only be distributed by a designated volunteer.

An attendant must be posted at the door. Only allows authorized staff and volunteers access to the breakroom. Is able to call an event security guard when needed.

Assists with setting up and breaking down the breakroom, which includes assisting with moving food trays (via carts) from the kitchen to the breakroom. All serving carts must be brought back to the kitchen because the servers will need the carts for dinner. Instructs other volunteers how to obtain their meals. Maintains a stock of eating utensils, food and drinks in the breakroom.

Follows basic food safety and sanitation practices (e.g., personal hygiene, handwashing, food serving gloves): Review training material at https://dav48sonoma.org/crab-feed-volunteers/ [click on links]

Serves as one of the Time-Keepers and turns in the time-keeping records at the end of the event to one of the Chapter officers (preferably the adjutant).

Orients newly arriving volunteers to sign-in/out, location of restrooms and where to go to meet up with their volunteer teams, team leads, and stations (instruction only). A map of the building will be provided. Can provide directions and instructions to and make requests of other volunteers.

Can assist volunteers with questions and concerns they may have.

The lead serves as one of the communication contact points. Team leads can communicate two-way via text or phone with the breakroom attendant and assist with volunteer coordination.

Keeps the break room clean and assists with cleaning the room at the end of the event. Cleaning the room consists of returning food trays to the kitchen, throwing away trash in the garbage can, wiping down tables, boxing left-over supplies to move to a nearby storage locker, and gathering paper documents to return to Chapter 48 officers.

Volunteer Meals (Saturday 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM): Food will be available for volunteers only in the breakroom. Volunteers cannot eat in the auditorium unless they have paid for a dinner ticket (seat). Non-alcoholic drinks are available for free to all volunteers throughout the event. Volunteers are responsible for feeding themselves. Volunteer meals are available for volunteers working an entire Saturday shift or multiple Saturday shifts.
