EVENT: 4th Annual Crab Feed Fundraiser - Proceeds will provide free rides for eligible veterans to and from their VA-scheduled medical appointments using the DAV Volunteer Transportation Network.
Volunteer Position: FOOD SERVER
Commitment Time: 4:00 pm to 8:30 pm, Saturday, February 22, 2025
Description of Volunteer Duties:
Checks in and out with the timekeeper - to receive and turn in volunteer identification.
Works in a team environment with other volunteers.
Interfaces with the event attendees courteously and professionally.
Must wear a provided volunteer identification at all times during the event.
Maintains good communication with their volunteer team.
Personal Hygiene is clean. It includes bathing/showering on the event day, wearing clean clothes ("first time worn since washing"), keeping hair tied back, wearing the provided apron, and wearing food-serving gloves. One cannot serve food if feeling unwell.

Proper Handwashing: Hand sanitizer cannot be used in place of handwashing. Hands must be washed for at least 20 seconds using warm water, soap, and rubbing all areas of fingers, back and front, and into wrist using a paper towel to dry. Must not dry hands on clothes. Hands must be washed after: using the restroom, coughing/sneezing/blowing nose, eating/drinking, touching garbage, touching hair/face/body, before putting on gloves, after touching dirty surfaces (e.g., equipment, work surfaces, towels).
Single Use Gloves: Never rinse, wash or reuse gloves. Always wash hand before putting on gloves. Do not touch hair, face or clothes with gloves. Change gloves when they are torn, before beginning a different task.
Picks up food trays in the kitchen and transports them to tables in the auditorium using wheeled carts to then place food on tables and picks up empty aluminum trays to bring back to kitchen.
Listens to and responds to event attendees' questions and requests, such as bringing more food to the table, providing directions to obtain drinks, the restrooms, bar, raffle/auction room, etc.
Monitors tables and reports to a supervisor when attendees violate guest policies, such as when guests fill containers to take food home, have brought in outside alcoholic drinks (wine and beer served at the event will be in a designated cup), or are heating butter with candles.
Picks up and throws away trash, such as empty plates, utensils, napkins, and drink cups, and places trash in the appropriate receptacle.
Immediately cleans or reports slipping or tripping hazards such as spilled food and drinks from the floor.
Helps to process food in the kitchen, such as filling food trays or to-go-boxes if there is food left over at the end of the dinner.
Volunteer Meals (Saturday 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM): Food will be available for volunteers only in the breakroom. Volunteers cannot eat in the auditorium unless they have paid for a dinner ticket (seat). Non-alcoholic drinks are available for free to all volunteers throughout the event. Volunteers are responsible for feeding themselves. Volunteer meals are available for volunteers working an entire Saturday shift or multiple Saturday shifts.
