Support Spawning Salmon @ South Prairie Creek Preserve - Join PCD's Nov. 23 Work Party!
ORGANIZATION: Pierce Conservation District
Please visit the new page to apply.
- Volunteer with Pierce Conservation District from 9 AM to 12 PM on Saturday, November 23rd, at South Prairie Creek Preserve near Orting! Bring family and friends to help plant native trees and shrubs as we continue efforts to improve this critical salmon habitat. Increasing vegetation cover near streams provides many benefits to salmon and other wildlife: more shade and filtration to keep the water cool and clean, additional food sources and habitat, improved flood mitigation, and more! Join us for a morning of hands-on stewardship, community, and family-friendly fun to support our local salmon populations!
- Activities will include planting native trees & shrubs and caring for existing vegetation.
- Terrain will be uneven and muddy.
- Parking is limited, so individuals in the same party are encouraged to carpool.
- A port-a-potty will be available on site.
- Please dress for the weather and wear clothes that can get dirty:
- Long pants & sleeves
- Layers
- Sturdy, closed-toed shoes/boots (we recommend waterproof boots; please no sandals or flats)
- Waterproof jacket
- Your favorite work gloves and/or shovel (*Optional* - loaner gloves and tools will be available).
- A full water bottle!

Description
The Pierce Conservation District works with the community to improve water quality, promote sustainable agriculture, create thriving habitat, and build a just and healthy food system for all, through education, community engagement, and financial and technical assistance. Our district’s roots run deep in our community. Created in 1949 as part of a national response to the ecological disaster of the 1930s known as the Dust Bowl, we have worked for over 65-years to help local farmers, cities, and citizens address numerous sustainability challenges. Conserving our natural resources for future generations gets more difficult with each year, making the work of Pierce Conservation District more important than ever.
