Hearts for Homeless is looking to expand its impact in the Bay Area, San Francisco. We are seeking a volunteer to assist a small, but growing, nonprofit organization in writing grants and/or research to find grant opportunities. Hearts for Homeless: Hearts for Homeless supports and empowers people experiencing homelessness to achieve stable housing by facilitating their social reintegration and providing them with the resources, knowledge, and mental and emotional support they need to navigate their journey home. Focus Areas:
We believe that homelessness is not just a housing issue, but a social issue that requires a holistic approach. We’ve identified 3 focus areas that we believe are essential to helping individuals experiencing homelessness on their journey home. These include:
- Client Advocacy: Our client advocacy program is a new model for service provision called Mental and Emotional Support Advocate (MESA). MESAs are volunteer client advocates who work on a one-on-one basis to provide their client with a personalized service while establishing a supportive connection. MESA volunteers work with their matched client for a minimum of 6 months to assists them in navigating the often complex process of accessing services and resources, as well as overcoming barriers on their path to stable housing.
- Emotional & Social Wellbeing support: Our Connect With Your Soul (CWYS) workshops are held in a hybrid format every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month, with a choice of joining at shelters in person or online through Zoom. The CWYS program provides additional support and encouragement by celebrating dedicated registered clients with gift cards at established well-being milestones.
- Digital Access: One of the biggest barriers to service is the lack of digital access. Post-Covid, many services have moved online or are no longer accessible. We've addressed the challenge by providing our clients, particularly those participating in the MESA program, with digital devices as part of our Digital Connect Program. Digital devices are essential to help our clients with:
- Communicating with service providers & accessing services
- Job Searching
- Communicating with support networks and/or family
- Accessing & sharing information
- To join our Connect With Your Soul workshops or to connect with their Client Advocates.
