Historic Cold Spring Village Interpreters work in the Village buildings and describe the architecture and history of their building. Artisans work in specific buildings demonstrating a craft or trade such as weaving, spinning, woodworking, printing and more. All Interpretive Staff members dress in apparel that is historically correct for a 19th century country village. Training is provided. Volunteer opportunities begin in May and continue through September.

Mission Statement

The mission of Historic Cold Spring Village is to preserve and interpret the material culture and traditions of southern New Jersey by presenting visitors with an understanding of the region’s cultural history and embracing a personal encounter with the past. This is represented through historic preservation, history education, and heritage tourism.

Description

Historic Cold Spring Village is New Jersey's largest open-air, living history museum. The Village is composed of 27 historic buildings that date from the late 17th century to the early 20th century, all lovingly and accurately restored to represent the trades and crafts of an 1800s south Jersey village. In keeping with the mission of education, the Village staff engages with school classes during spring field trips as well as in-class presentations focusing on early American history. Interpretive demonstrations introduce visitors to life during the "age of homespun" in a realistic setting without "velvet ropes" preventing interaction with the people and the place. The goal of HCSV is to become a "must see" destination for local residents as well as visitors to the Cape May region.
