Join us to celebrate National Hiking Day at Huron Meadows Metropark! The beautiful natural areas we see while hiking in our Metroparks are protected and managed by Natural Resource staff and others. In honor of National Hiking Day, we will take a 3/4 mile hike to learn about these natural areas and the work being done to preserve them. Then, you’ll get a chance to preserve a treasured forest ecosystem by cutting invasive autumn olive shrubs.
All necessary tools and equipment will be provided. We will provide gloves, but feel free to bring your favorite pair! Please be sure to dress for working outdoors and off-trail in areas that may include poison ivy (long pants, layered clothing, closed-toe shoes, rain gear, hat, sunscreen, etc.). Don’t forget to bring a bottle of water!
Pre-registration is required by 4 p.m. three days before the program. Please register online by clicking in the following link: https://bit.ly/HCMAvolunteer_register

Mission Statement
The Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority, a regional park system created in 1940 by the citizens of Southeast Michigan, provides excellent recreational and educational opportunities while serving as stewards of its natural resources. Our efforts are guided by the belief that the use of parks and exposure to natural environments enhance society’s health and quality of life.
Description
Every year, thousands of volunteers are needed to help out at the Metroparks to help preserve preserve the Metroparks and enhance the environment for generations to come. Volunteers of all skill level and interests are welcome!
Volunteers will give their time to nature or farm centers, or at Historic Wolcott Mill, to enrich the experience of every visitor. Nature lovers can plant and maintain flower gardens, or survey some of the Metroparks' plant and animal life. If you enjoy handy work, you can paint and refurbish signs, exhibits, and smaller buildings.
If golf is your favorite pastime, we can use your help on the fairways. Help maintain the pace of play, repair ball marks on the greens, move tee markers, clean trash, and perform other tasks that make golfing at one of the Metroparks' courses a most enjoyable past time.
Natural areas within the Metroparks need your help, too. Learn about supporting our native plant populations by removing invasive trees, shrubs, and plants, or collecting seeds to be sown at restoration sites within the Metroparks.
The Metroparks will provide all necessary tools and equipment, including water and snacks. Volunteer opportunities are available throughout the week and weekends. Individuals and volunteer group opportunities are available.
