The Actors Theatre Workshop (ATW), a non-profit theater and community center, is looking for Volunteer Mentors to join its Fall/Holiday Season to mentor children in and work in a production team for its Builders of the New World’s annual year-end theater arts education program for children living in the NYC shelter system. The children’s program culminates in a Creative Class and Holiday Celebration on Wednesday, Dec.11, where you would participate in and mentor the children in a creative class.

Being displaced by homelessness does not always allow a child the opportunity to have a traditional family gathering complete with nutritious food and gifts. For decades, ATW has remained committed to running this award-winning programs even while arts funding has dwindled. We have done this by relying on people-power.

In our impressive 34th year, we are looking for professional, mature, and fully vaccinated adults to share their professional skills in a production team to organize the Food, Gifts, market and support other administrative and production aspects of the program, and to share their compassion by mentoring these precious children during the Dec 11th Creative Class and Holiday Celebration.

Be a part of ATW’s Builders of the New World program:

  • Apply to be a part of our volunteer and mentorship team by filling out this short application.

  • Learn more about ATW’s programs, including its year-end Children’s program, at an Information and Interview Session (In-Person & Virtual) on Thursday, 10/17 from 6:30pm-7:30pm or Thursday, 11/7 from 6:30pm-7:30pm.

  • Attend a mandatory in-person training with our Artistic Director, Thurman E. Scott, on Tuesday, December 3rd, 6:00pm - 9:30pm. This training session will provide you with tools to tap into your creative potential and help you to better articulate your thoughts and ideas. You will gain an understanding of the ideas and concepts behind BNW and will learn the skills required to work with the children in our program.

  • Join a BNW Program production team and support on a flexible weekly basis in Production, Event Planning, Marketing, Video, Fundraising, Food/Gifts.

  • Bilingual Spanish speakers are highly encouraged to join us! We are looking for support translating English to Spanish because we work with a multilingual group of children.
