Unpaid volunteer staff for bike valet inc store

ORGANIZATION: Bike valet inc

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

I have been roundly criticized on reddit and Facebook for wanting to recruit unpaid volunteers to help run the bike valet inc store. I'm not asking for anyone to work full time for free. One day or one half day per week per person is sufficient. It seems that the IRS is much more lenient with nonprofits that have an all unpaid volunteer staff. Fundraising requirements are much easier as all income from fundraisers run by an all volunteer staff is tax exempt. This means less taxation, but it also means that I don't have to worry that too big of a fraction of the organization's income is derived from activities that are unrelated to the mission statement, such as selling Rose's and fair trade crafts, which could endanger the organization's nonprofit status if I had paid staff running the fundraisers.
