ORGANIZATION: Shining Lighte Youth Charity

We are seeking enthusiastic and compassionate Tutor to assist with the implementation of our program. Volunteers will work closely with youth participants to support their literacy development and help foster essential life skills such as emotional intelligence, financial literacy, and problem-solving. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a direct impact on the lives of young people in need while gaining valuable experience in education, youth development, and community outreach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tutoring: Provide personalized one-on-one or small group tutoring to students, helping them improve their reading, writing, and overall literacy skills.
  • Program Support: Assist in the design and execution of engaging, hands-on learning activities that encourage critical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Monitoring Progress: Track student progress and adjust tutoring methods to meet individual needs. Help students set academic goals and celebrate achievements.
  • Mentorship: Serve as a positive role model, building strong, supportive relationships with students to boost their confidence and encourage their academic and personal growth.
  • Collaboration: Work with program coordinators and other team members to ensure the program runs smoothly and that students’ needs are met effectively.

Key Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment or recent graduate in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or related fields (preferred but not required).
  • Strong passion for working with youth, especially those in under-served communities.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to build rapport with students, encouraging their academic and personal development.
  • Reliable, punctual, and responsible.
  • Previous experience in tutoring, education, or mentorship is an asset, but not mandatory.

The purpose of the charity is to empower and heal underprivileged youth to overcome racialized and impoverished situations through educational programs/initiatives, mentorship, and community engagement and interaction.

Description

Objectives: To increase the success levels in the underprivileged communities and bring resources within reach of those who have no or limited resources
To seek and develop opportunities and routes for those in need throughout the GTA and surrounding areas
To create and promote connections between Shining Lighte Youth Charity and the education system, justice system and social system and other youth empowerment groups.
We have a variety of programs, events and workshops which educate and empower while giving youth access to resources they might not have otherwise been afforded.
