Recruiting Organization: Neighborhood of Affordable Housing - Boston, MA
NOAH, Neighborhood of Affordable Housing, is seeking a dedicated AmeriCorps VISTA member to serve as a Community Resident Engagement Volunteer. This 11-month position offers a bi-weekly living allowance of $1,320.06 and an Education Award of $7,395.00.
This position will support the development of a multi-faceted resource and resident engagement plan with a focus on helping to establish a core group of community-based volunteers,
NOAH’s neighborhood initiatives seek to respond to localized neighborhood issues that directly impact our services community. East Boston is a heavily urbanized neighborhood, and as such is susceptible to negative environmental impacts including storm-surge coastal flooding and poor air quality. Additionally, the neighborhood is home to many marginalized communities that face barriers in accessible community programing and resources. NOAH works to understand and respond to these needs, and many others, by involving community residents in our efforts via a network of local volunteers and leaders. This kind of collaboration is key to achieving a substantial increase in affordable housing, environmental justice, community planning, leadership development, and economic development.
Specific duties will include:
- Participating in the planning and running of community information sessions on climate resiliency volunteer opportunities
- Outreach assistance
- Review NOAH’s database of volunteers to identify potential community leaders
- Organizing one-on-one meetings with potential volunteers and the NOAH's Community Building department
- Build on leadership training resources for NOAH’s community volunteers
- Draft and finalize a volunteer training handbook
- And more
