ORGANIZATION: McLaren Hospice

Description:

We are looking for volunteers to provide compassionate support to terminally ill patients and their families. Hospice volunteers offer emotional, social, and practical assistance, helping enhance the quality of life for their patients in their final stages. This role is ideal for someone with a caring heart, excellent listening skills, and a desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Here are some of the potential volunteer opportunities that you may be interested in.

  • Companionship Visits: Volunteers who are interested in companionship visits can visit either a patient's home or a facility and provide emotional and social support to patients by being a friendly face to provide a comforting presence or conversation.
  • Caregiver Relief / Respite: Volunteers who provide respite will typically be entering a patient's home and staying with the patient while their caregiver runs some errands, goes to an appointment, or even takes a much needed nap.
  • Pet Therapy: Volunteers and their trained pet therapy dogs, who are interested, will be providing similar services as a companionship visit to patients in facilities who love being around animals.
  • Veteran to Veteran Companionship: We at McLaren Hospice honor and support our military veterans. One of the best ways we an do that is by pairing them up with volunteers who also served in the military in order to provide companionship and shared life experiences.
  • Many other opportunities too!
