Winter Visitor Services Associate and Fee Collector

Looking for a volunteer opportunity in a location filled to the brim with history and a lush green temperate rainforest? Consider this!

We are currently looking for park volunteers to assist with daily operations and fee collection in the visitor center here at Lewis and Clark National Historical Park. This position offers flexible work hours, days, and duties as detailed below.


We are looking for off-season, winter, volunteers to help us from November - May. Applicants need not plan to stay the entire season.


RV Sites at a 15-minute drive are available for those willing to work 32+ hours a week.

Major Duties: All required duties for Visitor Center Associates

  • Staffing the front desk of the Visitor Center, acting as the first point of contact for visitors to the park site and assisting them with introductions, site history, and other local sites to visit.
  • Taking fees, selling park passes, scanning park passes, and finding the best deal for all the visitors that come to our park.
  • Assist staff in opening and closing the building depending on hours worked.
  • Restocking Park brochures and assist with folding newly printed ones.
  • Complete and adhere to all park safety trainings, standard operating procedures, and supervisor regulations.
  • Assist staff in keeping an accurate count of junior ranger booklets, badges, and other materials.
  • Look through and complete junior ranger books for park visitors. Award visitors with badges and patches as required.
  • Be flexible with park closures due to winter weather.

Opportunities for Volunteer Work: Potential activities for those who are interested!

  • Lead 30-minute tours to groups from cruise ships, river boats, and other commercial groups sized 20 to 60 people.
  • Assist with park special events.

Training for positions is offered at this park site. Fee handlers will need to pass a background check to ensure eligibility. We are looking for volunteers who will be passionate about the park story and in assisting visitors from all walks of life.
